Killara Joey Mob Cares For The EnvironmentOn Monday 3rd March, the day after Clean-Up Australia Day, our Joeys did a great job cleaning up the local park/reserve around our Scout Hall at Barra Brui Oval. They were all given disposable gloves and a plastic bag which they enthusiastically filled with litter, including plastic bottles, plastic bags, bottle tops, and chip wrappers amongst other things. On returning to the Scout Hall, we made a recycling bin out of an old box and filled it with the plastic bottles and cans we had collected. On Monday 17th March, the leaders and several parent helpers took the Joey mob on an outing to the Dalrymple Hay Reserve, Rosedale Rd, Gordon. We walked through the Reserve, observing the native plants and many native birds. The Joeys collected dead leaves and plants to use for their Projects "About Nature" and "About Wildlife". During the course of the term, our Joeys also completed tasks at home with their families, including looking after a small garden bed, listing and drawing animals with pouches, learning what garbage to recycle, learning what to do if you find a sick or orphaned animal. We are sure that our Joeys now appreciate Nature and our Environment much more having completed this project, and most of all they had a lot of fun in participating in this challenge badge. |
