1st Hunters Hill's Adventure ChallengeDuring first term, the 1st Hunters Hill Joey Mob has been concentrating on achieving their Adventure Badge. To complete and obtain this badge the joeys have participated in three off site adventures. Our first off site adventure was a Clean-up. This consisted of walking along our local streets and removing any unwanted rubbish that could be washed into the drains and putting it into large garbage bags so that the local council could carry out the correct method of disposal. The Joeys walk led them all the way from the Joey Scout hall to "yellow" park (Harry Shelley Memorial Park). When they reached their final destination they -were clutching between them a full bag of rubbish with items ranging from plastic bags to soft drink cans and this was after just one week after "Clean-up Australia Day". What interested the Joeys was that the main forms of rubbish collected were cigarette butts. All the Joeys were very co-operative on their adventure and enjoyed finding and removing the rubbish. The Joeys second off site adventure was a weekend excursion to the "Little Trains" place at West Ryde. The Joeys were accompanied on this particular off site adventure with the 1st Meadowbank Joey Mob which was very exciting. All the Joeys spent a fun filled Saturday morning riding the little trains, which was a lot of fun. The Joeys were very excited also when they discovered Seven's Sydney Weekender show was filming at this venue and some of our joeys managed to get their fifteen minutes of fame as TV stars. The Joeys particularly enjoyed this adventure, as they were able to meet many new Joey friends while still having heaps of fun! The third and final adventure was the Joeys' investiture and going up program down at Clarkes Point, which was a new place to visit. Of course being at Clarkes Point had to include fishing so this was factored into our busy program. The joeys love fishing and can never get enough of the experience. We were lucky enough to catch two fish on our excursion the first was caught not soon into the program by a young Mathew. He caught a hand-sized Bream and although small to keep the pride in the young boys face was amazing, as he had caught this just off shore on a handline. Just as the Joeys were about to pack up another fish came to the line of the young Felicity and all the Joeys were eager to view this second catch. This fish was another even bigger Bream. Unfortunately, just as the previous the fish was too small to keep and after a weary peck on the lips the fish and a few photos was thrown back. Overall, this final adventure was a very successful fishing trip for our young hand-line fishers! |
